Change

We are creatures of habit, they say. We wake up to our morning routines, make similar choices, cook the same foods and hang out with the usual people. Over time we get set in our ways and develop bonds that feel familiar and safe. We arrange our lives in ways that are predictable. We spend our time being busy in our existence. Our minds are occupied with to-do lists, our bodies racing from here to there, with no time to pause, reflect and create. Yet there are those who carve out time to focus on personal growth, leading them to change and to reach for more.

When we focus on growing, it requires us to heal and learn. As we heal past wounds, we remove obstacles to who we can be. Healing leads to expansion. As we heal, we learn to be in ways, we never knew before. We no longer allow unhealthy behaviour we once had accepted. Our healing gives rise to a new version of ourselves that expects better for ourselves. As we grow we may come to realise that the life we had created may no longer fit us as it once did. Our priorities change and as a result what we want and like shifts. The role we played in families and social groups no longer reflects who we have become and are still becoming. We may cling  to the familiar existence out of fear of not knowing anything else.

It takes awareness of self  to realize we are no longer who we once were. It takes honesty to admit that the life we created is no longer working for us. It takes courage to act in integrity with our Soul. It takes personal power to overcome fears that paralyze us. And when we do this we discover there is so much more to life that awaits us. This is where we have to make a choice,  to either stay where we are or do the hard work necessary before the next passage can be revealed to us.

Through it all, our Soul always knows what is good for us and what is not. As we move through life, we tend to dismiss the signs that appear to direct us. That hollow feeling in our stomach, the contracted feeling in our core,  the heaviness in our chest, the tightness in our throat, and the nervousness that runs deep and eerie. These are ways in which our Soul speaks to us. When we pay attention to this dialogue between us and our Soul our trust in ourselves deepens and we can not be led astray.

We begin to witness our life in ways like never before. Synchronicities appear to lead us towards life’s next chapter. Tragedy knocks on our door to awaken us. Patterns become apparent and lessons begin to take hold. We begin to align with our wholeness leaving no part of ourselves unclaimed.

As we embody our wholeness we stop trading our energy for pieces of validation. We stop sharing our presence in spaces we are not valued . We stop hiding our power for others to feel enough. We find peace and guard it from that which comes to disrupt it.

It’s not always easy letting go of people we once adored. It’s not easy letting go of environments we once called home. It’s not easy letting go of vocations that once felt secure. It’s not easy letting go of the old identities we once clung to. Growth is not easy and it leads to change. This change can be disruptive, it can be gradual, it can be uncomfortable, it can be exciting and it can be absolutely liberating. When we listen to the whispers of our Soul, change will come to take us where we truly belong.
